terror gang is back to kill.

Twin brothers are nursing injuries after a two man gang broke into their house in Kerugoya town.
Ephraim Mugane 28, a teacher and Ngungi Chomba an advocate at Kerugoya town were about to retire to bed when the gang managed to get into their house.
Speaking in his hospital bed Ephraim narrated how the terror gang managed to get into their house through the exit or better known as back door by breaking a glass and they opened the door which he said had a padlock which they cut and passed though the kitchen door to their bedrooms.
Mr.Mugane added that he heard his twin brother scream in his bedroom saying he has been cut with a panga on the head.
He added that he dashed from his room and went to rescue his brother who at the time was lying unconscious on the floor.
He said that he managed to grab one of the men who was standing at Ngungi’s door but since they had put off the lights the other gangster who was ransacking the house cut his head with a panga.
He said that he called their father who is a police officer in Mwingi who informed the police in the district and the two were rushed to Kerugoya district hospital where they are being treated.
According to their father Chomba Kathanga, police responded very quickly when they were informed and managed to take the two to hospital saying that crime has started going back to where it has been since their neighbor is a magistrate who has an Administration police just at the gate.
Mr. Mugane added that they seemed to have been paid to kill the advocate saying that they did not steal anything from the house but stole their mobile phones.
“We had nine thousand each and we tried to give them but the (Thieves) refused to take and went on cutting us only for them to take our mobile phones which seems they were paid to kill wakili” Added Mugane.

JANE MUGAMBI 20TH APRIL 2010.

Two people are feared dead after they drowned in a well in kutus town in Kirinyaga East district.

The two who could not be identified immediately had been hired by the owner of shell petrol station in the area Jeremiah Gateeri to clean it.

The accident happened when the two well known well diggers were requested to clean for clean water which he uses for domestic use.

One of them went down using a rope and a water pump so that he could pump the water out but he went down in the 54 feet well.

After a few minutes his colleague decided to check on him since no word came from him and he also followed suit and drowned.

Business came to a standstill when people learnt that their were people trapped in a well who are well known to them as well diggers and could not understand the reason as to why they got stuck.

At the time police were arriving, residents were trying all means to get them out but using very weak ropes.

Kerugoya rescue team was called to try and rescue the two and tried with three of its employees who were unable to get a third of hole citing that their was no oxygen.

Francis Kinyua from Kirinyaga county council rescue team who was the first to try, said that the well has no oxygen at all citing that even if he had oxygen kitty it was still hard for him to get down.

Area OCPD Patrick Oduma said that the owner had hired an individual to remove rubbish from the borehole.

He added that the two suffocated and could not manage to get out due to lack of enough oxygen.

Mr. Oduma added that the second had gone on a rescue mission when he also had difficulties in getting out and also suffocated.

He said that they suspect the bodies have sunk since nothing was seen floating.

He said that if the Kirinyaga county council personnel were not well trained and lacked facilities for rescuing when there is crisis.

Mr. Oduma added that if it was well equipped, retrieving the bodies could have been very easy..

He said that since there was no need of risking more lives after the three attempts which all saw lack of oxygen led to suffocation, through the police force, they have communicated to get divers from the navy team to help them in removing the bodies.

ROBBERY

ROBBERY.

A businesswoman in Kirinyaga central yesterday lost over 1 million to three armed robbers in Kibingo area.
According to Kirinyaga Central Administration Police Officer Irungu Kabenah, the manager of Munyiri brewers was intercepted by a vehicle that was packed at the roadside and three women came out of it holding guns to her and ordered her to surrender what was at the back of her vehicle.
He said that the Margrate Munyiri was seated at the co-drivers seat, had gone to bank the 1.5 million at Kerugoya town Monday’s collection.
He said an informer called telling the police that there was a strange vehicle that was packed at the roadside in Kibingo town and the people in it seemed not bothered to get out saying that the vehicle was spotted at 8a.m packed at the same point.
Mr.Kabenah added that the vehicle had two number plates saying that they were put to confuse the wananchi who could have reported to the police.
He gave the numbers as KBJ 902L which was at the back while KAP 680M which was infront saying the KBJ 902L has committed several crimes in the larger district and anyone with information on the white saloon car to report it to the police.
The AP boss added that though the personnel seems to be limited, he will disperse them to every corner of the district to beef up security urging the businesspeople banking large consignment of money to get police escorts.
He said that in the same brewery before ordering for security, they had lost over 5 million shillings to armed thugs saying now the robbers have learnt their tactics of guarding at night and during the day there is no policemen saying that they will also take another step of making sure that no more money is lost to the robbers.
Contacted for comments Margrate Munyiri told the Star that they were 4 in their vehicle going to bank the money during the attack together with their driver.
She said that after they were robbed, they also took their vehicle car keys and went away with.
Mrs. Munyiri added that the vehicle which they were driving in on Monday belonged to one of their employees saying that it is an inside job.
NB.They are four wives who according to Margrate had gone to bank the money

AK RECOVERED

AK RECOVERED.
Police in Kirinyaga have arrested a gangster and recovered an AK47 rifle in Karumandi village in Kirinyaga East district.
Kirinyaga OCPD Patrick Oduma, the suspect was accompanied by two more other people where he later killed on of his accomplice and the other escaped unhurt.
He said that the suspect were on a drinking spree at the trading centre when a quarrel ensued and a fight broke.
Mr. Oduma added that Francis Njeru 32, the suspect was overpowered in the fight and told the deceased Newton Isaac Mwangi 29, to wait for him as he collects something from his house.
The OCPD added that Francis came with an Ak47 and shot Newton three times on the chest where he died on the spot.
The 1.30 am incident attracted a lot of patrols as police and members of the public who heard the gun shot hunted for the suspect who disappeared in the dark immediately he killed.
The OCPD said that working on leads, they visited his house but found it was locked and after breaking into, they found noone and later visited other houses in the compound.
He said that at a distance, they visited the suspect’s brothers house but they found it locked from outside and ordered the one inside to open but he declined.
The OCPD added that police were forced to break the padlock and on opening, the door was also locked from the inside and that is when they suspected the killer could have taken refuge in the house and immediately, they broke into and did a search and they found the suspect hiding under his brother’s bed.
He said that after interrogating where he had taken the AK, he declined but police went on with their search and found it hidden in a store.
Mr. Oduma added that they found a magazine and three spent cartridges that had been used to kill Newton and he had dismantled the gun.
The Police boss said that the arrest of the suspect is a success after he escaped very many police dragnets and used to escape from police cells with handcuffs on saying that they have a lead in getting his other colleagues who he said are believed to have been terrorizing residents of Mwea, Kutus and Gichugu.
He said after investigations, the suspect will be taken to court to face charges on possession of a firearm without a license and murder.
