ARSON CHARGE

ARSON CHARGE.

An arson case against eight Kerugoya boys students did not continue after the prosecution requested form more time for a report from the government chemist.
The prosecuting inspector Rogers Sifuna told the court that the case the eight are facing could not continue since some of the recovered items from the burnt dormitories were taken to the government chemist for analysis.
He said that the exhibits particles, equipments, metals that were recovered from the debris of the dormitory that was burnt had been taken to the experts to examine the same to see whether there was some explosives used and that the officer who was sent by the court to get the results was told to wait for more three weeks for the analysis.
The students lawyer Njue Muriithi argued that the prosecution is taking longer than expected adding that the students are supposed to be sitting for their mocks examination which will be starting very soon.
He added that the court give them three more weeks for the report to be tabled in the court to confirm whether his clients were indeed the once who burnt the dorm.
Bernard Njiru, Kenneth Kimaru and six others were present before principal magistrate Steve Mbungi facing arson charges after they burnt the school, dormitory worth 3,000,000/- on 16th May 2010.
Chief inspector Sifuna however requested the court to adjourn the case until the report is availed at the court where their lawyer did not oppose.
He also said that the case cannot continue since the witness side had no one present for the case.
The eight pleaded not guilty and through their lawyer they were allowed to prepare for their examinations.
The case will be heard on 21st of July 2010.
