A MAN WHO HAS BEEN TIED WITH CHAINS FOR FOUR MONTHS.
JANE MUGAMBI 22ND NOV 2010.
A 31 year old man has been tied with chains for four months by his parents at Kiathi village in Kirinyaga Central.
David Karimi was tied on 6th August after he was released from prison on 1st June by his parents.
Speaking with the Star,he said that before being detained with chains,he had been grafting trees a training he attained while in prison.
He said that on the fateful day,his parents ambushed him where he was packing trees for sale and tied him with chains on the hands and legs then called villagers who helped transport him using a wheel barrow.
He added that he was first locked at his parents house before taken to the kitchen where he has been for four months.
Karimi added that according to the allegations his parents are saying of him being a bhang smoking was long after he left prison and that he had reformed.
He said before being tied with ropes,he had broken his parents windows after his mother rebuked him when he wanted to share a scripture that he learnt in a rally in Kerugoya town.
"It was my first time to go to church, and when I told my mother we share a scripture that I heard from pastor Musili, she rebuked me calling me a devil provoking me and I smashed her windows out of anger" he added.
Father Zephania Njagi said since 1997 when he was in Kamuiru boys his son used bhang to an extent that he has been in Mathare in and out severally.
He said that before they came to a point of tying their first son with chains,he had tried to kill his mother severally but all his plans aborted.
During the interview, the son seemed very bitter with his mother who he accused of denying him food.
HE said the food they claim to have been giving him was hard githeri, ovacado and strong tea(turungi) for the four months.
Mr.Njagi said that he will be relieved to have him be jailed for life with one surety of him not coming back or even him being killed by thugs while being tied in the house.
Mother Catherine Wakathare said the man is very annuisance claiming that he peddled drugs and the reason for them to tie him is to control his drug business.
Neighbours interviewed said that Karimi was a very hard working man and that the claims the parents are putting across are a way of defending themselves.
Mary Wanjiku a neighbour said that at one point 100 youths from the village had gone to rescue him but his parents pelted stones on the dismissing them.
She said that the mother was overheard warning anyone telling them to keep off from her home.
Ms.Wanjiku went on to say that anytime one tried to talk about Karimi being rescued from the den, bore no fruits after meeting hostile parents.
She added that Karimi is always heard screaming and crying at night begging his parents to stop beating him.
He has fresh and healing wounds at the back, hands, buttocks.
The rescue was heavily guarded by police to avert any confrontations from the violent parents.
After forceful tackits to rescue the detained man,he was taken to Kerugoya district hospital where he is undergoing treatment while his parents have been locked at Kerugoya police station and will be charged in a court of law with negligence and assault.
