MURDER.
JANE MUGAMBI 14TH FEB 2010.
A Prominent businessman in Kerugoya town was last night killed in cold blood by unknown people in his house at Miringa-iri in Kirinyaga central district claiming to be paid 300,000/-.
Patrick Ngungu the owner of Edpurk hotel in Kerugoya opened his house to have supper at 9pm from his work place with his family but got a rude shock when three men told him that they were paid to kill him and his family and cut the back of his head killing him on the spot.
According to the OCPD Francis Kumut, the hit squad had gained entry through the back door using a master key.
He said that they slashed him and tied his wife with a cello tape so that she could not scream, two children and Ngungu’s mother with a rope and locked in a room at the ground floor and continued to enjoy the meal.
Mr.Kumut added that the wife struggle to untie and by good luck she got the ropes off her hands, legs and shouted attracting neighbors to her home who came to her rescue..
HE said that the wife’s mouth was zero taped showing that the killing was done silently since the door was locked from inside.
The shaken mother could not talk due to her age but could be seen crying due to the loose of her son.
According to former Mwea Mp and also a long time friend to the deceased Alfred Nderitu, he got a call at 7 am informing him that his friend Patrick was no more.
He said that he thought it was a joke but after calling his number, it went unanswered.
Mr. Nderitu said that since nothing was stolen from the family, the motive was to assassinate him.
He said that the wife told him that they three men caught them at the sitting room while taking dinner and told her not to worry since they are unusual friends and feel free to serve them.
He said that after a long conversation, they disclosed to her that they were paid and thus sent to finish the entire family but they needed Ngungu.
“They actually told the deceased wife that they were paid 300,000/- and sent to finish the whole family but maybe for the sake of the kids that’s why they left her alive” Nderitu added.
Mr. Nderitu said that it seems that people are using hit men to finish those that have money.
Sources told the Star that a businessman has been arrested and was seen at the compound peeping through the window.
The source went on to say while tying the wife, one of them named their “boss” who had paid and sent them to kill.
Mr. Ngungu becomes the eighth person to be killed in less than a month and the tenth to be killed in cold blood.
