RESCUED.

RESCUED.

JANE MUGAMBI

11TH FEB 2010.

A Mungiki suspect was yesterday rescued by police in Kirinyaga Central.

According to OCPD Francis Kumut, Ephraim Murage who is from Murang’a was “arrested” by vigilantes on the road as he sniffed tobacco.

He said that police were called in by members of the public when they saw that he was directed to Hague.

Mr. Kumut added that in a short while, they arrived and managed to rescue him adding that he was already tied on a tree.

He said that police were forced to shoot in the air to cut the rope since the tree was very high and the vigilantes ran away after seeing the police.

The OCPD said that the suspect is in Kerugoya police cells for more interrogations on his mission to the area since he is not from Kirinyaga.

Several Mungiki suspects who ran away a few months ago have been trying to go back to their homes but have been receiving hostile youths praying for their blood.

The administration have been advocating on community policing to avoid more deaths in the area that occurred and left over 20 Mungiki suspects murdered in cold blood.

Police said that security will be beefed up and promised Kagumo residents that no more deaths will witnessed.
