CDF-GITAU

CDF-GITAU.
JANE MUGAMBI 20 FEB 2012.
Mwea MP Peter Gitau has said that the constituency development fund
(CDF) allocated to Mwea is not enough compared to the rising number of
enrollment in schools.
Speaking at Mutithi where he presided a cheque worth 700,000/- for the
completion of Mutithi secondary school, the area Mp said that there
has been a very high enrollment since free primary and secondary
education was announced.
He said that through the high number of student’s enrollment more day
schools were created to cater for the rising number since many
boarding secondary schools could not accommodate them rising the
number from 2000 to 8000.
“If we take a critical look with the enrollment considering that Mwea
has a population of over 900,000 people, then the money allocated is
not enough for every child who wants to have a bursary” added Gitau.
The mp also cited that they have set aside 5 million for students who
are in higher institutions while 1 million to be allocated to children
of single parents and orphans while 5 million to secondary schools
from the 11million that the constituency got through CDF so that the
children can get education which is an essential thing in the country.
He said that this year’s enrollment has gone up beyond the expected
target after the area produced the best pupils in the county citing
that the number of bursary required since many are from poor families
needs consideration.
Gitau said that though there has been some improvement on the boy
child enrolling in school, it has been attributed to the campaign by
stakeholders after the number of boy’s dropping out of school became
alarming to work in the rice fields.
“The enrollment of bots is very impressing compared to the last three
years where boys dropped out of school to work in rice farms, raising
the number of this years enrollment with about 70%”added the Mp.
