KIKUYU ELDERS CONDEMN BATTERING OF MEN.

KIKUYU ELDERS CONDEMN BATTERING OF MEN.
JANE MUGAMBI 22ND FEB 2012.
Kikuyu senior elder chairman Mwangi Thuita has condemned husband
battery that is being witnessed in Central Kenya.

Mr. Thuita said that according to the Kikuyu customs husbands are not
supposed to be beaten pointing a finger to irresponsible behaviors
that have cropped up due to illicit beer taking.

He said that men are filing in the society since they are not able to
solve their problems due to indulgence in alcohol.
“Our men have a problem; indulgence of illicit beer taking has made
them become irresponsible causing the fights at homes’ added Thuita.

Thuita said the escalating cases of domestic violence should be
addressed urgently by the government, religious leaders and other
stakeholders.

He said cases of husband battery may have been from the fact that many
women are taking over the roles of men who have failed to provide for
their families and have resort to excessive drinking.
“There is a real problem within the family. Husband battery is not
only unlawful and but also it shows that women do not respect their
husbands anymore” added the Kikuyu chairman.

He said that despite the church being on the forefront in advocating
against husband battery, some are being seen very busy politicking a
move that is ungodly.

He has however urged the men of God to preach peace in families and
take up the issue of guidance and counseling to avert more harm.
